FIFTEEN PRAYERS

The Fifteen Prayers revealed by Our Lord to St. Bridget of Sweden in the Church of San Pablo, Rome

Published under sanction of November 15, 1966 decree, published in the Acta Apostolicae Sedis, volume 58, number 16, of December 29, 1966.

PRAYERS approved by Pope Pνo IX

First Prayer (Our Father – Hail Mary)

Oh Jesus Christ! You are the eternal sweetness of all those that love You; the joy that exceeds all joy and desire; the salvation and hope of all sinners! You have declared not to have greater desire than to remain in the middle of the men, on Earth.  You love them to the point of assuming human nature, at the height of the times, by love to them.

Remember all the sufferings that you underwent from the moment of Your Sacred Passion; as was decreed and ordered from all the eternity, according to the divine plan.

Remember, Oh Lord, that during the last supper with Your disciples you have washed their feet; and later, you gave them Your Most Sacred Body, and Your Most precious Blood to them.  Thereafter, with your usual sweet demeanor, you announced to them of Your forthcoming Passion.

Remember the sadness and bitterness that You experimented in Your soul, as You yourself stated by saying:  "My soul is sad until death."

Remember all the fears, the anguishes and the pains that you had to withstand in Your Sacred Body, before the torture of the crucifixion.  After having prayed three times, soaked in bloody sweat, you were betrayed by Your disciple, Judas; arrested by the inhabitants of a nation that You had chosen and praised.  You were accused by false witnesses and unjustly judged by three judges; everything which happened at the zenith of your life and during the solemn Easter season.

Remember that you were stripped of Your own clothes, and given a laughable mantle. They covered Your Eyes and Face slapping You.  Later, they crowned you with thorns, and put in Your hands a cane.  Finally, you were tied to a column, flogged, and overwhelmed with insults and lies.

In memory of all these pains and insults that You supported before Your Passion in the Cross, grant me before dying, a true contrition, a sincere confession and complete absolution of all my sins. Amen.

Second Prayer (Our Father – Hail Mary)

Oh Jesus!  True freedom of the angels, and paradise of delights!  Remember of the horror and sadness that you suffered, when Your enemies, like furious lions, surrounded You with thousands by injuries:  spit on you, slapped you, lacerations, scratches and other unmentionable horrors.  They tormented You at will.  In consideration of these torments and injurious words, I beg you, Oh my Savior, and Redeemer!  that you free me from all visible and invisible enemies and that, under Your protection, cause me to reach the perfection of the eternal salvation.  Amen.

Third Prayer (Our Father – Hail Mary)

Oh Jesus!  Creator of Heaven and Earth, You who nothing can stop nor have limit!  You encompass everything; everything is sustained under Your loving power.  Remember the very bitter pain that you suffered when the Jews, with heavy square nails, blow by blow, nailed Your Sacred Hands and Feet to the Cross.  And not happy to see in such a sorrowful state to satisfy their rage, they enlarged Your Sores, adding pain upon pain. With indescribable cruelty, they stretched Your Body in the Cross. And with violent tugs and pulls, in all direction, they dislocated Your Bones.

Oh Jesus, in memory of this sacred pain which you supported with as much love in the Cross, I beg you to grant me the grace of fearing You and loving You.  Amen.

Fourth Prayer (Our Father – Hail Mary)

Oh Jesus, Heavenly Doctor, elevated in the Cross to cure our sores with Yours! Remember all the contusions and injuries in all Your Extremities that were dislocated to such degree, that there has never been similar pain to Yours.  From the top of the head to the bottom of the feet, no part of Your Body was free of torments.  Nevertheless, forgetting all Your torments, that did not stop You from requesting from your Heavenly Father, saying to Him:  "Father, forgive them for they not know what they do.”

For this immense mercy, and in memory of these sufferings, I plead to You:  grant us that due to the memory of Your very bitter Passion, we may reach a perfect contrition, and the remission of all our sins. Amen.

Fifth Prayer (Our Father – Hail Mary)

Oh Jesus, Mirror of Eternal Light!  Remember the acute sadness which you felt when contemplating ahead of time, the souls that were going to be condemned.  To the light of Your Divinity, you have glimpsed the predestination of those that would be saved, by means of the merits of Your Sacred Passion.  Simultaneously you have sadly contemplated the immense multitude of sinners that would be condemned by their sins; and you have complained bitterly about those desperate, unfortunate and lost sinners.

By this abyss of compassion and mercy, and mainly by the kindness that you demonstrated towards the good thief, saying to him: "Today you will be with Me in Paradise", I make this plea, Sweet Jesus. I request that at the time of my death You have mercy of me.  Amen.

Sixth Prayer (Our Father – Hail Mary)

Oh Jesus, infinitely loved and yearned King!  Remember the pain that you have suffered, when, naked and like a common and current criminal, You were nailed and elevated in the Cross.  Also, You were left by all Your relatives and friends with the exception of Your very beloved Mother.  In Your agony, She remained faithful next to You; thereafter, you entrusted Her to Your faithful disciple, John, saying to Mary: "Woman, here is your son" And to John: "Here is your Mother"

I beg of you, Oh my Savior, by the pain that the soul of your Most Holy Mother suffered, have compassion of me.  And in all my afflictions and tribulations, corporal as much as spiritual, have mercy of me.  Help me in all my tests, and especially at the hour of my death. Amen.

Seventh Prayer (Our Father – Hail Mary)

Oh Jesus, inexhaustible Source of compassion, have compassion of me!  In a profound  gesture of love, you have exclaimed in the Cross: "I am thirsty"  It was thirst for the salvation of mankind.  Oh my Savior!  I request to you that you inflame our hearts with desire to direct us towards perfection, in all our works.  Extinguish in us the sexual concupiscence and the ardor of the worldly appetites. Amen.

Eighth Prayer (Our Father – Hail Mary)

Oh Jesus, Sweetness of hearts and Delight of the spirit!  By the bitter bile and vinegar that you tasted at the Cross, by Your love for us, hear our pleas.  Grant us the grace to receive with dignity Your Most sacred Body and Your Most precious Blood during our life, and also at the time of death to serve as remedy and consolation to our souls. Amen.

Ninth Prayer (Our Father – Hail Mary)

Oh Jesus, Real Virtue and Delight of the soul!  Remember the pain that you felt, immersed in an ocean of bitterness, when approaching death.  Insulted and humiliated by the Jews, you cried out to your Heavenly Father, saying to Him:  “My God, My God, why have you forsaken me”.

For this anguish, Oh my Savior, I beg You not to abandon me to the terrors and pains of my death. Amen.

Tenth Prayer (Our Father – Hail Mary)

Oh Jesus, Beginning and End of all the things, You are Life and total Virtue!  Remember that because of us, you were immersed in an abyss of grief, experiencing pain from the bottom of your Feet to the top of your Head.  In consideration of the enormity of Your Sores, teach me to keep by pure love to You, all Your Commandments; whose way of Your Divine Law is ample and pleasant for those that love You. Amen.

Eleventh Prayer (Our Father – Hail Mary)

Oh Jesus!  Very deep abyss of Mercy!  In memory of the Sores that penetrated to the marrow of Your Bones and Entrails, to attract me to You, I present this plea.  I, miserable sinner, deeply submerged in my offenses, ask that You distance me from sin.   Conceal me from Your Face so justly irritated with me.  Hide me in the hollows of Your Sores until Your just indignation and rage have stopped. Amen.

Twelfth Prayer (Our Father – Hail Mary)

Oh Jesus, Mirror of Truth, Seal of Unity, and Bond of Charity!  Remember the multitude of Sores when you were wounded, from Head to Toe.  Those Sores were lacerated and reddened,  Oh sweet Jesus, by the effusion of Your adorable Blood.  Oh, what total and complete pain have you undergone by Your love to us, in Your virginal flesh!  Sweetest Jesus!  What was there to be done for us that You did not do?  Nothing is missing.  You have done it all!  Oh kind and adorable Jesus!  By the faithful memory of Your Passion, that the commendable Fruit of Your sufferings is renewed in my soul.  And that in my heart, Your Love increases every day until it arrives to gaze at You in eternity.  Oh kindest Jesus!  You are the Treasure of all joy and true happiness, that I ask You to grant me in Heaven.  Amen.

Thirteenth Prayer (Our Father – Hail Mary)

Oh Jesus, strong Lion, immortal and invincible King!  Remember the immense pain that you suffered when, having exhausted all Your strength, both moral as much as physical, you tilted your Head and said: "All is finished."

By this anguish and pain, I beg of You, Lord Jesus, to have mercy of me at the hour of death when my mind will be tremendously upset and my soul submerged in anguish. Amen.

Fourteenth Prayer (Our Father – Hail Mary)

Oh Jesus, only Son of the Heavenly Father, splendor and similarity of Its Essence! Remember the simple and humble recommendation that you did of Your Soul, to Your Eternal Father, saying to him: "Father, in Your Hands I entrust My Spirit"  Your Wounded Body, Your Heart ripped apart, and opening the Entrails of Your mercy to redeem us, you expired.  For Your Precious Death, I beg You, Oh King of the saints, comfort me.  Help me to resist the demon, the flesh, and the world.  So that, being dead to the world, I only live for You.  And at the time of my death, you receive my wandering and exiled soul that returns to You. Amen.

Fifteenth Prayer (Our Father – Hail Mary)

Oh Jesus, true and fertile Vineyard!  Remember the abundant effusion of Blood that so generously you have spilled of Your Sacred Body. Your precious Blood was spilled like the juice of the grape at the winery.

From your side perforated by a soldier, with the lance, gushed forth Blood and water, until the last drop had left Your Body.  Finally, like a collection of limbs, propped against the Cross, your very delicate and fine flesh was ravaged; the substance of Your Body wilted, and the marrow of Your Bones dried up.

By this bitter Passion, and the effusion of Your precious Blood, I beg You, Oh sweetest Jesus, to receive my soul, when I am suffering the agony of my death. Amen.

Conclusion

Oh, Sweet Jesus!  Wound my heart so that my tears of love and penance serve me as bread, day and night. Convert me entirely, Oh my Lord, to You.  Let my heart be Your perpetual Room.  And that my conversation be pleasant.  That the goal of my life be such that after death  I can deserve Your Paradise; and praise you for ever in Heaven with all Your saints.  Amen.
